Kertek keretben - Gardens in frame

Kattintsatok a képekre!

I got the framed Gardens from the framer, I really like the outcome. Th picture it looks brown, but in reality it is with a little silver effect, goes very well with the greys and blues. I opted against the cardboard frame (passepartout?) because it suppresses the pattern. Click on the photos for a better look.

Örömtánc / Happy Dance

Készen lettem az Őszikerttel!!!! A Chatelaine befejezetlenprojektirtó verseny (WIP killing contest, tudtok rá jobbat?) eredményeként pici késéssel, de befejeztem az Őszikertet, remélem a 30 perccel éjfél utáni zárás nem jelent diszkvalifikációt. Ha igen, akkor is megérte:))). Nem is szaporítom a szót, beszéljenek a képek, jó sok!

Happy dance, I am ready with the Autumn Knotgarden! The Chatelaine WIP killing contest gave me enough encouragement to finish my first big Chatelaine, and hopefully the 30 minutes delay to midnight 31 May is not a disqualifying momentum. In case yes, I do not mind, I am delighted with my result and the motivation I got from the contest. Thanks for organising! And I do not write any more, let the photos tell the rest. And there is many of them!

This weekend - in theory - was about IHSW and stitching, but life and family was calling me, so there was only a small progress on the last part of Autumn Knotgarden. This part is really beautiful, the blue Auster flowers, orange sunflowers, and the rosehips in the corners are pleasure to look at, but I had quite a fight with the Jessica stitches in the Austers. I started and frogged the first at least 10 times, maybe more, till I gave up, asked some help from the yuku forum, and with this help I managed to stitch after the 3rd trial:))) Still not perfect, but working on, there is 8x8=64 jessicas around the center, way to improve! This is the last part of the design, after finishing the corners, the top and the bottom sides only the beading remains, and ready! Click on for the details

Jobb későn mint soha - IHSW - Better later than never

I had a very busy week, so I did not have time to post my IHSW photos earlier, but as the Hungarian proverb goes better later than never, so here they are. However, thank to our national holiday on the 15th of March we had a long weekend, so I managed to finish Part 5 of Autumn Knotgarden. Apart from beading only Part 6 is missing, but it will be released in May, so I have to wait a little.

For my readers, who are not familiar with Hungarian national holidays a little history: Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy lead by the Habsburg dynasty. In 1848-49 there was a fight for our independence which started with a revolution in Budapest on the 15th of March. Sadly, we did not won this fight, but the day is very important for us, and became the symbol of freedom for all Hungarians. On this day we put a little circle of ribbon to our coats, called "kokárda" to remember for those who used this during the day more than 160 years ago. The ribbon is made up of colours of the Hungarian flag, the red stands for strength, white for loyalty, for green for hope.

IHSW & TUSAL

This weekend was the 1st IHSW for 2012 - at least for the others. In my family there is a huge gathering this weekend, name and birthdays for almost everyone, so I was happy to get any needles into my hand. I do not know whether you have heard about celebrating nameday. It is a Catholic custom, all the names are connected to a saint with the same name, and all the saints have a day (or more) dedicated to them in the calendar. Hungary used to be a Catholic coutry in the Middle Ages, and the custom stayed until today for non-Catholics as well: on the day of your saint you get presents from your family, it is just like a 2nd birthday.

Despite the celebrations I managed to finish part 4 of Autumn Knotgarden. I took me quite a while, altogether 3 weeks to catch up with part 3 and finish part 4. Well, there was some action otherwise, my little son started nursery school, he was a little ill, we were visiting parents, I read many good books, but IHSW gave me the final kick and it is ready now.

And my ORT jar for TUSAL, I still need to find something nice, but I used this glass for now. Well, I never thought it is so difficult to take a photo of a jar, it was the 30th try, I went arount the whole flat at least 4 times to get something usable...

Our old camera was a little bit ill, due mostly to the fact that I dropped it several times during the last year. I still believe they were not a real drops, more like  jumps, to give my beautiful cross stitch an even closer look, but unfortunately noone believes me. However, when my DH suggested to get a new one I was not against the idea, and he quickly started to check the digital camera tests. It was more difficult to eliminate his immediate interest in the superest reflex cameras, given the fact that he hardly ever takes a photo, and my capabilities at the moment are limited to make portraits of our son and my stitching - strictly auto settings allowed. Finally we got an agreement and here are the first photos. (Well, the very firsts are about our son, but he will not be posted here...)

IHSW November

Bezzeg a Kreinik!

The weekend flew away quickly, but I am (not) a little overestimated my speed and stitching time. My Cherub is partly done, let's say 1/3, and it is an overstatement. She has a face, a candle, but all the beads are still missing. The sparkly thread is Kreinik, and now I understand why people are complaining about metallics. Up to now I used only Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid, and never had any problem. Well, with Kreinik...I am really glad to get my Thread Heaven, it made a way better, but still, it was not an easy pie.

And I could not resist Autumn Knotgarden, this small spider really wanted to meet you.

Felavatva / In use

Yesterday during Autumn Knotgarden I tried the floss conditioner (Thread Heaven) I bought last week, and it works perfectly. Archfiend rayon is under control, even thought I had to make so extremely tiny stitches to finish the little black end of rosehips that I was almost too scared to start.

For the rice stitches I was staring really hard, but after a few minutes I realised that my magic lamp is not only magic, but includes a magnifyer. After a 2 years period of neglect I got to use this function. To tell the truth I have tried it once, but I thought I did not need it. Moreover, the world was kind of twisted through the lenses, so it was only my son who uses it. Well, he does is throughoutly, checking his tiny fingers several times a day, and loves when his father makes faces on the other side of the glass. But now doing 1 over 1 on 32 ct the need arised, and I realised that if I took the lense really close to my face it works properly. I look kind of idiot lying on a plate sized magnifyer lamp, but otherwise it is fine:)

And the third, which is funny, and confirms my belief that I should never read instructions with any tools. For Autumn Knotgarden I am using Q Snaps (not the original, but one which is called universal hand frame) and I was thinking that I could use them as a rolling frame if I put smaller rods to the 2 sides. So I ordered the smallest, 6"x6" and when they arrived I took them apart and changed the sides. It was kind of difficult to take it to pieces, but after a little fight I succeeded, and they are perfect for my purpose. Then I read the big bold lettered instructions on the backside of the cover paper: "This frame does not pull apart and is not interchangeable with other size frames". Hm. It did pull apart and was interchangeable for me. Well, it took some time...

Not to forget: IHSW.

És végül fotók.  And last but not least:

I was extremely efficient, and finished Autumn Knotgarden Part 1 & 2 almost in a week! It was really easy to stitch, the only difficulties were laying with the backstitched leaves and flowers. However, I wonder how can you keep your beans with you: I was losing them all the time, collecting pieces from everywhere. I put only a few to a top of a small jar but they are always running away! By the way, being the mother of a 1,5 year old, the "jar" is an Avent cup originally to keep mother's milk in the fridge. Well, I never used them for that purpose since I never managed to have any extra, but at least they serve me quite well now.

Kéthavonta kapom a hímezni való mintát, eddig 2 részt publikáltak a hatból.

And yes, I have started my new Chatelaine, Autumn Knotgarden. This is the first piece of the 4 seasons. Spring and frosty are already kitted, summer is only in my thoughts. The design is published bimonthly, 2 of the 6 is already uploaded.

I took the photo of the 1st part after the plain stitches, there are beads and speciality stitches to come. The second picture is still without some beads and sparklies, but a little of part 2 is already done. The third is a closeup with almost all the beads, only a very few missing.
